01 · In plain English

Sulfur masks and spot treatments are classics. They smell a bit, and they’re gentler than some people expect.

02 · What it does

Sulfur has mild antibacterial and drying (keratolytic) effects. It’s often combined with sodium sulfacetamide in prescription products.

A Cochrane review of topical acne treatments found only limited, low-certainty evidence for sulfur compared with other options.

  • Mild acne and oily skin, especially if other actives irritate.

04 · What the evidence says

  • Mild acne, as a spot treatment or mask.limited evidence

05 · Myths, checked

07 · How to use it

  • As a mask or spot product a few times a week.
