The receipt on your data.

Plain language, kept short. Last updated October 2026.

01 · Photos

Ask Receipt accepts two kinds of photos: a product's ingredient label and, only in “Look at my skin” mode after you tick a consent box, a photo of an area of your skin.

A photo is sent with your question to our AI provider (OpenAI) to produce one answer, with the request marked not to be stored for later use on their side (store: false). We do not save photos to our servers or a database, and there are no accounts to attach them to. OpenAI may still keep API data for a limited time for abuse monitoring under its own API terms.

Skin photos are used only to describe visible features such as uneven tone, dark marks, texture, redness, dryness, or shine. Receipt does not diagnose, name conditions, or score severity.

02 · Guided skin scan

The /scan page uses Google's MediaPipe Face Landmarker, running entirely in your browser, to check head angle, light, and sharpness while you take three or four photos. Face landmarks never leave your device.

The photos are resized on your device (about 1024px) and are sent only after you review them and tick the consent box. Everything goes in one request to OpenAI, with store: false. Along with them go up to 10 close-up crops (forehead, cheeks, nose, chin and jaw, under-eyes, about 768px each), cut on your device from the same camera frames using the face landmarks, so small details aren't lost. They follow the same rules. We don't keep them. If the guided scan can't run, you can upload three photos instead, under the same rules.

03 · Go Live (beta): voice and camera

Go Live is a beta voice conversation. When you start voice, your microphone audio streams directly from your browser to OpenAI's Realtime API using a short-lived key that expires within minutes; our real API key never reaches your browser.

The camera preview stays on your device. There is no continuous camera streaming: a still (or a close-up crop of one area) is sent only with your consent: when you finish a face scan, press “Take photo”, or Receipt looks at an area you mention. Ending voice or closing Go Live stops everything.

We don't record or store your audio, transcripts, or stills. The on-screen transcript disappears when you close the session.

04 · Your skin timeline (stored on your device only)

If you choose “Save to my timeline” after a scan, the photos (as small thumbnails), the close-up crops, the written Receipt, a short per-area summary and your note are saved in this browser's local storage (IndexedDB) on this device. Your skin profile (concerns, sensitivity, routine) is stored the same way. None of it is uploaded to us, and there's no account.

To build the per-area summary we send only the written Receipt text (no images) to OpenAI once, with store: false.

Your profile is sent along with questions, scans and Go Live sessions so Receipt can tailor answers; it isn't stored by us.

“What changed?” on your profile sends only the two scans you pick (their matching close-ups and summaries), and only after you tick the consent box, with store: false.

Export or delete everything from your profile page at any time. Clearing your browser's site data also deletes it.

05 · Questions you type

Your messages are sent to OpenAI to produce an answer and are not stored by us. The conversation lives in your browser tab and disappears when you close or refresh it.

We will name any change of AI provider on this page.

06 · No training without consent

We do not use your photos, skin photos, scans, voice, camera stills, or questions to train models, and OpenAI does not train on API data by default. If that ever changes, it will be opt-in, asked for clearly, and off by default.

07 · Email

If you subscribe, we store your email address with our email provider to send the Journal notes. We don't sell it or share it for advertising.

Every email has an unsubscribe link.

08 · Deletion

Photos, scans, chats, voice, and stills aren't kept by us, so there is nothing to delete on our side. Anything you saved to your timeline lives on your device; delete it from your profile page. To remove your email address from the list, use the unsubscribe link or contact us and we will delete it.

Contact: privacy contact address coming soon.

09 · Not medical advice

Receipt offers education about products, ingredients, and visible features. It does not diagnose. For anything changing, painful, bleeding, or worrying, see a dermatologist.
