Oily, sensitive skin and visible pores: would a BHA toner help?

By , skincarereceipt content team · Published

The question

Someone has oily, acne-prone, sensitive skin and wants to make visible pores look smaller. They are considering several COSRX exfoliating toners and ask which, if any, might help.

Toners cannot permanently shrink pores, but a leave-on BHA may help reduce clogged-looking pores and shine for some people. Since your skin is sensitive, start with just one exfoliant slowly rather than combining the COSRX options.

01 · What may help

The photo shows visible pores around the nose and inner cheeks, with some shine. That is common, and pore size is partly natural. Salicylic acid (BHA) has limited evidence for improving clogged-looking pores and rough texture, but it can also irritate sensitive skin.

  • Of the options listed, the BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is the most directly aimed at clogged-looking pores.
  • The AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner may be a gentler, lower-strength option, but it may also do less.
  • Avoid using multiple acid products together.

02 · How to try one safely

Use one product on a small area first. If your skin tolerates it, try it once a week at night, then moisturize. Give it a few weeks before deciding whether it suits you. Stop if you get persistent burning, redness, or peeling.

  • Keep the rest of the routine simple: gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen.
  • Skip scrubs and other exfoliating acids while testing it.
