Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-8)

INCI: Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (also listed as Acetyl Hexapeptide-3)

Argireline is the "Botox in a bottle" peptide. One placebo-controlled study supports smoother expression lines; here's what it can and can't do.

01 · In plain English

Argireline is designed to soften expression lines by quieting the muscle signal behind them.

02 · What it does

It mimics part of SNAP-25, a protein nerves use to release the signal that contracts muscles. In lab tests it reduces that release.

A randomized, placebo-controlled study of 60 people found smoother lines around the eyes after four weeks of twice-daily use.

03 · Who it’s for

  • People with fine expression lines who want a gentle topical option.

04 · What the evidence says

  • Smoother expression lines around the eyes.limited evidence

05 · Myths, checked

  • “Argireline is topical Botox.”

It targets a related pathway much more weakly, through the skin.

    insufficient evidence

06 · Insufficient evidence

  • Effects on deep, static wrinkles.
  • Long-term results.

07 · How to use it

  • Once or twice daily on expression-line areas, before moisturizer.

08 · Pairs well / go carefully

  • Nothing specific.

The Receipt

  1. 01One decent small trial; modest effect.
  2. 02Fine to try; expect softer fine lines, not a frozen look.
