L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer: what's really in the Revitalift cream

Does the L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer work? We read the Revitalift ingredient lists (original, fragrance-free and SPF 30), checked how much pro-retinol and vitamin C it has, and read the study behind the claims.

01 · The short version

The L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer (full name: Revitalift Triple Power Anti-Aging Moisturizer) is one of the best-selling drugstore face creams in the US, and searches for it tripled this week. It costs $27.99 for 1.7 oz, and the box promises to reverse up to 10 years of wrinkles.

The "triple power" is pro-retinol, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. We read the full ingredient lists for all three versions on L'Oreal's US site and the clinical paper the brand points to. Here's what's in the jar, how strong those three actives really are, and who it suits.

02 · What's in the L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer

Read the label in order and the cream is mostly water, glycerin and light emollients (isohexadecane and isopropyl isostearate), followed by niacinamide, a starch powder, nylon-12, dimethicone and fatty alcohols. That's a solid, well-built moisturizer base. Glycerin draws water into the skin and dimethicone and the emollients slow its escape.

Niacinamide sits fifth on the list, which makes it one of the more meaningful ingredients in the jar, even though L'Oreal doesn't put it in the name. It also contains a little capryloyl salicylic acid (a gentle salicylic acid relative), caffeine, vitamin E and adenosine.

Nylon-12, polyethylene, titanium dioxide and synthetic fluorphlogopite are soft-focus powders and light-reflecting minerals. They blur texture and add a bit of glow the moment you put it on, which is part of why skin looks better on day one.

03 · How strong are the pro-retinol and vitamin C?

"Pro-retinol" is retinyl palmitate, and it's near the very end of the ingredient list, after the sodium hyaluronate. Retinyl palmitate is the gentlest form of vitamin A. Your skin has to convert it to retinol and then to retinoic acid before it does anything, and lab and skin studies show it gets in less well and does less than retinol does.

The vitamin C is ascorbyl glucoside, a stable form that your skin slowly turns into vitamin C. It also appears low on the list, below caffeine. L'Oreal doesn't state a percentage for either one.

So the three "powers" aren't equal. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin give real hydration. The pro-retinol and vitamin C are present in small, gentle amounts. That's why it's easy to tolerate, and also why it isn't a substitute for a proper retinol or a vitamin C serum.

04 · Does it really reverse 10 years of wrinkles?

The product page says it's "clinically tested to reverse up to 10 years of wrinkles" and footnotes the claim as "based on multiple clinical studies." The page doesn't explain how years were measured.

The published study the brand links to was written by L'Oreal employees and tested a cream with ascorbyl glucoside, retinyl palmitate and hyaluronic acid. In 53 women aged 35 to 55 who used it twice a day for 4 weeks, graders scored fine lines and wrinkles about 26 to 29% lower and roughness 44% lower. In a separate test on 26 women's forearms, hydration rose 46% within 15 minutes and stayed up for 24 hours.

There was no comparison group using a plain moisturizer, and the authors say themselves that this makes it hard to credit the actives. Any good moisturizer makes skin less rough and fine dehydration lines less visible within days. The results are believable for a moisturizer. They don't show that the cream reverses aging.

05 · The GLP-1 claim

L'Oreal now markets Triple Power as "a great support for GLP-1 users" with sagging skin after rapid weight loss. That claim comes from a home-use survey of 102 women on GLP-1 medicines who rated their own skin after 4 weeks. Most were satisfied, but there was no control group and no measurements.

Loose skin after big weight loss is about lost fat and volume under the skin. A moisturizer can make the surface look smoother and more hydrated. It can't replace lost volume.

06 · Original vs fragrance-free vs SPF 30

The original and the fragrance-free versions share the same base. The original adds fragrance plus the fragrance allergens benzyl salicylate, coumarin and linalool. If you have sensitive skin or eczema, pick the fragrance-free one; it's the same price.

The SPF 30 version ($29.99) is a different formula. It swaps in squalane, alcohol, boron nitride and acetyl hexapeptide-8 (Argireline), and it still contains fragrance. It's meant for mornings only. To get the SPF on the label you need a generous layer on your face and neck and you need to reapply in the sun, which few people do with a moisturizer.

07 · Who it suits and how to use it

  • Dry, normal or mature skin that wants one easy cream: the fragrance-free version morning and night is a sensible, affordable pick. Add a separate broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher in the morning.
  • If you want real retinoid results: use a retinol or adapalene product at night and treat Triple Power as the moisturizer on top. Don't expect the pro-retinol in it to do that job.
  • Oily or acne-prone skin: the texture is fairly rich. Try it at night first, or choose a lighter gel moisturizer.
  • Sensitive or eczema-prone skin: avoid the original and the SPF version because of the added fragrance. Patch test the fragrance-free one on your inner arm for a few days.
  • Already using a vitamin C serum or niacinamide serum: that's fine. The amounts in Triple Power are gentle, so layering usually isn't a problem.

08 · The science

Glycerin and hyaluronic acid pull water into the top layer of skin, and dimethicone and emollients slow water loss. Better-hydrated skin reflects light more evenly and fine lines look shallower, which is most of what you see in the first week.

Retinyl palmitate has to be converted twice in the skin before it acts like retinoic acid, the form that has strong evidence for wrinkles, so its effect at a low concentration is mild. Niacinamide has decent evidence for evening tone and improving the look of aging skin at around 4 to 5%. Ascorbyl glucoside is a stable vitamin C derivative with much less clinical data than pure vitamin C.

09 · What might help

  • Hydration and smoother-looking skin within days, from glycerin, hyaluronic acid and the emollient base.well-supported ingredients
  • Niacinamide for a more even-looking tone with steady use.limited evidence
  • A modest drop in graded fine lines over 4 weeks, as in the brand's own uncontrolled study.limited evidence
  • Pro-retinol and vitamin C at these levels doing what a retinol or vitamin C serum does.insufficient evidence

10 · Insufficient evidence

  • Any independent or vehicle-controlled trial of the L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer.
  • The "reverses up to 10 years of wrinkles" claim; the product page doesn't say how it was measured.
  • Firming or lifting sagging skin in GLP-1 users; the evidence is a self-rated survey with no control group.

The Receipt

  1. 01The L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer is a good, affordable moisturizer with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid doing most of the work.
  2. 02The pro-retinol and vitamin C are gentle and low on the list. They won't do what a real retinol or vitamin C serum does.
  3. 03Buy the fragrance-free version, use it morning and night, and wear a separate sunscreen. That's where the anti-aging results really come from.

Education, not a diagnosis. If something changes quickly, hurts, bleeds, or worries you, see a dermatologist.

Questions people ask

Is the L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer good?
Yes, as a moisturizer. It's a well-made cream with glycerin, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and dimethicone, and it costs under $30. The anti-aging claims rest on a 4-week study by L'Oreal's own scientists with no comparison cream, so think of it as a good daily moisturizer rather than a treatment.
Does Loreal Triple Power moisturizer have retinol in it?
Not pure retinol. It has retinyl palmitate, which L'Oreal calls pro-retinol. It's the mildest form of vitamin A and sits near the end of the ingredient list, so it's much gentler and weaker than a retinol serum.
Can I use L'Oreal Triple Power moisturizer at night?
Yes. L'Oreal says to use the original and fragrance-free versions morning and night. The SPF 30 version is for mornings only. At night you can put it on over a retinol or retinoid product.
Which is better, Triple Power original or fragrance-free?
Fragrance-free for most people. The two share the same base, but the original adds fragrance plus benzyl salicylate, coumarin and linalool, which can trigger allergies in sensitive skin. They cost the same.
Does L'Oreal Triple Power really reverse 10 years of wrinkles?
The claim is footnoted as based on multiple clinical studies, but the product page doesn't explain how it was measured. In the published study, graded wrinkles dropped about 26 to 29% after 4 weeks, without a plain-moisturizer comparison group.
Is L'Oreal Triple Power good for oily or acne-prone skin?
It can feel rich on oily skin. L'Oreal says it doesn't clog pores, but if you break out easily, try it at night on a small area for a couple of weeks or pick a lighter gel moisturizer.
Does the Triple Power moisturizer help sagging skin from Ozempic or other GLP-1 medicines?
It can make skin look smoother and more hydrated. The GLP-1 claim comes from a survey where 102 women rated their own skin, with no control group. Sagging after fast weight loss is mainly lost volume, which a cream can't replace.
