01 · The short version

Short answer: vibration has more support than you'd expect. Small trials of whole-body vibration plates and handheld vibrating massagers improved the look of cellulite, as long as people kept using them. Compression and textured cellulite leggings have only one small pilot study, with mixed results. Neither changes the bands that cause cellulite.

02 · Vibration plates

In a controlled trial of 42 women with cellulite on the buttocks, those who did whole-body vibration sessions got higher improvement ratings from blinded reviewers and were more satisfied than the control group. Their buttock measurements and body contour didn't change, though.

Local vibration helped too. In another study, three weeks of daily local vibration sessions lowered cellulite grade, without changing thigh or hip measurements.

03 · Handheld vibrating massagers

The strongest study was 24 weeks long. Forty women used a handheld vibrating device on the outer and back of the thighs. By week 12, 3D skin scans showed cellulite was significantly reduced on the outer thigh. After that, half stopped and half kept going: cellulite returned soon in the group that stopped and stayed improved in the group that kept using the device.

04 · Cellulite leggings

Most anti-cellulite leggings are compression garments, sometimes with a textured, honeycomb or padded knit. In a pilot study of 18 women wearing a padded compression garment for 4 weeks, satisfaction with their cellulite improved by 18.5%. 3D scans showed less dimpling on the left thigh but no change on the right thigh or the buttocks. The study was small and had no control group.

The textured knit in popular leggings mostly hides dimples while you wear them, a bit like patterned fabric hides wrinkles.

05 · How to make them count

  • Pair vibration with strength training on the same muscles.
  • Use a caffeine cream right after a vibration or massage session, while the skin is warm. In a 2026 double-blind trial, a 2% caffeine cream used twice daily beat placebo on cellulite scores.
  • Expect results to last only while you keep going.
  • If you have a pacemaker, are pregnant, have had recent surgery or have joint problems, check with a doctor before using vibration plates.

06 · The science

Vibration and compression likely work on the same things as massage: moving fluid, increasing blood flow and temporarily firming the tissue. That's why results show up in weeks and fade when you stop. None of these tools cut the fibrous bands behind dimples.

07 · What might help

  • Handheld vibrating massage on the thighs, used continuously.limited evidence
  • Whole-body vibration sessions for the look of buttock cellulite.limited evidence
  • Caffeine cream after sessions.Clinically studied

08 · Insufficient evidence

  • Compression or textured leggings giving lasting change.
  • Vibration plates reducing body fat or measurements.

The Receipt

  1. 01Vibration can visibly improve cellulite with regular use.
  2. 02Leggings mostly disguise dimples while you wear them.
  3. 03Pair any tool with a caffeine cream and strength training for the best look.

Education, not a diagnosis. If something changes quickly, hurts, bleeds, or worries you, see a dermatologist.

Questions people ask

Do vibration plates get rid of cellulite?
They don't remove it, but a controlled trial found whole-body vibration improved how buttock cellulite looked to blinded reviewers. Results depend on continued use.
Do anti-cellulite leggings work?
One small pilot study of a padded compression garment found higher satisfaction after 4 weeks and less dimpling on one thigh. Textured leggings mainly hide dimples while worn.
How long should you stand on a vibration plate for cellulite?
Study protocols varied. Local vibration studies used 30 to 60 minute sessions daily for three weeks. Follow the device's guidance and keep sessions regular.
